For over 50 years, our Co-Curriculum internship program has provided students with immersive, real-world work experience. Madeira is the only school in the nation that provides 100% of its students with three amazing five-week internships prior to high school graduation. Today we’re going to hear from one of the juniors in the Class of 2027, Rima Peterson.

Please briefly introduce yourself.
Hi, I'm Rima Peterson, a three-year Junior boarding student from Guadalajara, Mexico. I'm part of Madeira's Riding Team and an RA in Main Dorm.
Thinking back to middle school, what made you choose Madeira?
I chose Madeira for the community that I've experienced since my first time stepping onto Madeira's campus, in addition to the unique opportunities that Madeira could offer me including our strong academics, internship programs, opportunities to grow as a leader, and our equestrian program.

How has Madeira supported your interests, in the classroom and out?
Madeira has supported my interests in the classroom and beyond by providing opportunities to apply them in the real world, allowing my knowledge to continue growing through my Co-Curriculum placements.
Rima and Congresswoman DeLauro
Please reflect on your Co-Curriculum experience so far. What tasks and projects did you work on? How did those experiences impact your plans for the future?
For my Junior year Co-Curriculum internship, I got placed in the office of Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro from Connecticut's 3rd District. During my time there, I got to learn about the inner workings of the U.S. government in more detail, especially how the House of Representatives works. In my placement I had the opportunity to answer phone calls from both constituents and other offices in the House, help organize and log incoming mail and emails, and deliver information to fellow offices. A highlight from my internship was getting the chance to help draft social media statements in relation to holidays and current events, opening my eyes to a future career in communications that I hadn't considered previously.

What's a moment that stands out to you from each year here at Madeira?
A moment that stands out from me each year here at Madeira is Founder's Day. It's always a fun break from academics that the whole community spends together that's filled with fun outside.
Could you describe your Madeira experience in three words?
I would describe my Madeira experience as valuable, transformative, and exciting.
