Madeira Ranked #1 Best Girls High School in Virginia and the DC area

The Madeira School has once again been named the #1 Best Girls High School in both Virginia and the Washington, DC area on the Niche 2026 Best Schools Ranking List. Madeira was also ranked as the #2 Best Boarding School in Virginia and the DC area, as well as the #2 Best Private School in Virginia.

Madeira's national accolades include a rank of #7 Best Girls High School in the United States (of 288 schools) and placement in the top 6% of Boarding Schools in the United States (of 441 schools). Of the 4,917 private schools evaluated, Madeira is in the top 1%.

Madeira’s Head of School, Christina Kyong, said, “While our overall goal is for all Madeira students to work toward their personal best, it is an honor for the hard work and welcoming spirit of our community to be recognized.”

In addition to the top rankings, Madeira was one of only 2.5% of schools in the U.S. that earned an overall Niche grade of A+. Madeira also earned A/+ grades in Academics, Teachers, Clubs & Activities, Diversity, and College Prep.

Madeira’s teachers scored highly on ratings from students and parents for engaging lessons, caring about their students, and classroom leadership. Students rated the School highly on a number of characteristics including feeling safe, liking the School, and being happy at Madeira.

Madeira earned these rankings by scoring highly on a variety of factors including SAT/ACT scores, student-teacher ratio, the quality of colleges students consider, and reviews from students and parents. The statistical data used in this ranking was obtained from the U.S. Department of Education and analyzed by Niche’s team of data scientists to create the 2026 rankings.
