The wealth of knowledge and experience Madeira provides our girls is the result of the generous support of alumnae, current parents, past parents, grandparents, faculty, staff, and friends. Your gifts make a huge difference in our ability to claim a place among the finest independent schools in the greater Washington, D.C. area.

Gifts to The Madeira Fund help to balance the budget and allow the School to meet our short-term, annual needs. The Madeira Fund, our annual giving program, is crucial to our students' experience. From recruiting a wonderful new teacher to putting on a theatrical performance, from scholarships to athletic uniforms, from books to classroom technology, annual giving provides for an educational atmosphere that is vibrant – academically, athletically, and socially.

The Madeira community has always responded generously and enthusiastically when asked for support, and we are grateful to all those whose gifts have helped the School become the outstanding independent girls’ school it is today. As the second century of our school begins, we are confident that such a tradition of support will continue to play an important role. Gifts to the endowment, major gifts, and capital projects are also a wonderful way to show support for Madeira. Such special gifts help the School complete important and needed projects.

Information about new tax provisions in the CARES Act

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act passed this year by Congress and the President has some new tax provisions for donors to nonprofits, such as The Madeira School.

If you take a standard deduction, you may take an additional, “above the line” adjustment to income of up to $300 per taxpayer ($600 for a married couple) in annual charitable contributions. A donation to a donor advised fund (DAF) does not qualify for this new deduction.

If you itemize, you may deduct more of your charitable donations, for individuals, up to 100% of your 2020 AGI (up from 60% previously). The higher deduction does not apply to donations directly to a donor advised fund (DAF).

This information is not intended as legal or tax advice. As always, we encourage you to consult your tax advisor if you have any questions about your ability to qualify for these new tax incentives.
