Private Lessons

Madeira offers private music lessons taught by area professionals. Weekly lessons are held in our performing arts building, known as the "C/A," and run   1 hour.

Areas of Instruction

  • Cello
  • Flute
  • Piano
  • Viola
  • Violin
  • French Horn
  • Voice (training in a number of styles)

It is possible to take private lessons in another instrument if a teacher can be secured.

Registration and Activity Credit

There is no prerequisite for private music instruction. Students can take up to 8 lessons seasonally, Fall = Mods 1-2, Winter = Mods 3-5, Spring = 6-7. Students can sign up by season, but are encouraged to take the full year. Billing is handled directly through the school, charged at the beginning of each season for the full 8 lessons.

Students are encouraged to perform in the at least 1 Soiree recital each year but additional performance opportunities and events are abundant.

Madeira owns eight Steinway pianos, including a nine-foot Steinway concert grand, and many digital instruments. With the exception of pianists, students are expected to provide their own instrument. It is possible to rent instruments for an additional fee.

If you have additional questions about private lessons, please contact the Arts office by phone at 703-556-8270, or email the department chair, Sasha Newman, at snewman@madeira.org
