Private Lessons

Madeira offers private music lessons taught by area professionals. Weekly lessons are held in our performing arts building , known as the "C/A," and run either 30 or 45 minutes.

Areas of Instruction

  • Bass
  • Cello
  • Flute
  • Guitar
  • Piano
  • Viola
  • Violin
  • Voice (training in a number of styles)

It is possible to take private lessons in another instrument if a teacher can be secured.

Registration and Activity Credit

There is no prerequisite for private music instruction. Students taking weekly 45-minute lessons throughout the year may earn one (1) activity credit. Students who wish to receive credit must perform at one Madeira event per year and attend events that support the Madeira music community. Performance opportunities and events are abundant.

Students register for instruction at the beginning of each year and pay fees directly to the instructor. Enrollment is subject to teacher availability.

Madeira owns eight Steinway pianos, including a nine-foot Steinway concert grand, and many digital instruments. With the exception of pianists, students are expected to provide their own instrument. It is possible to rent instruments for an additional fee.

If you have additional questions about private lessons, please contact the Arts office by phone at 703-556-8270, or email the department chair, Sasha Newman, at snewman@madeira.org
