Camp Greenway CIT Program

The 2019 CIT Application is Now Open!

The Program

Counselors in Training (CITs) are rising 10th graders who want to experience what working at Camp Greenway is all about. This program is designed for individuals who enjoy interacting with young children and are interested in further developing leadership and communication skills. CITs will work alongside counselors and other camp staff assisting in various ways. There will also be dedicated time during the session when they meet with the CIT Supervisor and have discussions around topics including professionalism, effective communication, and tips on how to best work with children of different ages.

A CIT's general tasks can include assisting a group’s Counselor and Junior Counselor and their campers, helping with events for theme days, carpool, camp logistics, and more. Please keep in mind that CITs are not technically staff and will not be responsible for supervising children on their own. In addition, CITs may be given specific daily goals or directives, for example teaching campers a new game or a group chant.

In order to be considered, CITs need to commit at least two consecutive sessions (a minimum of 3 weeks) of Camp Greenway. CITs will receive a formal evaluation on their performance from the CIT Supervisor mid-way through and at the end of their commitment. This experience can give CITs a significant edge the following year should they choose to apply for a Junior Counselor position, however completing the CIT program does not guarantee future employment at Camp Greenway.

Helpful Tips for Applicants

  1. Check your email regularly and respond in a timely fashion. All communication regarding interviews, application status, etc. will be done by email, so please provide us with an email address that you check on a regular (at least 3-4 times a week) basis.
  2. Be on time (or even a few minutes early) to your interview!  Be prepared to talk about why you are interested in being a CIT at Camp Greenway. Practice with a parent or friend if you have never interviewed before. It's okay to be a little nervous. Come prepared with 2-3 questions you'd like answered, and most importantly be yourself :)
