Madeira student Yoyo Song ‘24 won first place at the International Music Festival of Melbourne in the piano category.
Yoyo began the contest strong, picking up second place in the preliminary round. For the final round, she chose to play “Liebestraum No. 3 in A-Flat Major,” by Franz Liszt, a piece that she had only been practicing for a couple months. Yoyo’s strong performance earned a first place finish.
“For me, this competition was very challenging. But I was able to use the difficulty as motivation to play at my best," said Yoyo. Persevering through the competition gave me great experience and wisdom that I can use for future challenges. I am so grateful for the recognition of my talents, but my true happiness delves from the music itself - it is such a passion.”
The International Music Festival of Melbourne is a competition that recognizes elite piano, instrumental, and vocal talents, primarily focusing on young performers.
Congratulations to Yoyo for this honor.
