The Madeira swim and dive team finished their regular season with a 103-83 win over rival Georgetown Visitation on February 5, 2013.
“This was a big win for us because we tied this team at the Independent School League championship meet earlier in the season,” said Coach Montrie. “It was great to see the team step-up to the challenge.”
Swimmers April Chaung and Nora Canellakis, along with divers Carly Yosaitis, Ramsey Aldrich, and Grace Callander had strong performances that contributed to the win.
Madeira recognized their seniors – divers Grace Callander (captain) and Debbie Druckerman; and swimmers Maddie Alagia, Grace Johnson, Kelly Marchant (all three captains) and April Chaung – for their hard work, dedication, and leadership at their last home high school meet.
Individual award winners for Madeira were: Grace Johnson ’13 in the 200 yard freestyle; Maddie Alagia ’13 in the 200 yard individual medley and 500 yard freestyle; Farrin Saba ’15 in the 50 yard freestyle; and Kylie Jordan ’16 in the 100 yard butterfly and 100 yard backstroke. Alagia, Johnson, Jordan, and Saba’s combined talents gave Madeira the advantage in the 4x200 yard and 4x400 yard freestyle relays.
Next, Madeira travels to Richmond for the Virginia Independent School Athletic Association (VISAA) State Championship Meet on February 15-16. The team will no doubt look to Jordan, who won the 100 yard butterfly, breaking both the Madeira team record and the ISL championship meet record, for another strong performance.
