Students place at State Latin Convention

During Thanksgiving Break, Latin Teacher Ann Maclean took nine Latin students to the State Latin Convention in Richmond for two full days of competitions and Latin fun. Madeira students won 12 awards in 10 different categories. 

Overall results:

Latin Convention (Nov. 22-23) in Richmond, VA:

Becca Bishof (10th in pentathlon, 8th in mottoes)

Laney Flaesch (5th in oil painting, 2nd in cartoon)

Brianna Harrington (2nd for fresco)

Lucy Li (3rd in reading composition II, 9th in history, 9th in grammar, and 7th in vocabulary)

Ciara O'Donoghue (7th in history, 10th in charts)

Diana Smith (10th in Roman life)


In  December, 17 Latin and etymology students took the National Classical Etymology Exam. Madeira had six winners (3 gold medals, 1 silver, and 2 bronzes).
