Spanish Club celebrates Gabriel Garcia Marquez on the Day of the Dead

November 2, 2014

Over the weekend of October 25, the Madeira Spanish Club created a Day of the Dead, or Día de Muertos, altar in the lobby of Schoolhouse 2. The Day of the Dead is a holiday celebrated in Mexico and other countries around the world, October 31, November 1 and 2. Family and friends gather to remember and pray for friends and family members who have passed away.

This year the club dedicated the altar to Gabriel García Márquez, Colombian novelist, short story writer, screenwriter, and journalist. Márquez died in April of 2014 at age 87.

Thank you to all club members who helped to assemble the altar this year!
