Seniors in the English elective, Contemporary Literature After 9/11 learn about life in Afghanistan

December 11, 2012
Ali Pratt ?13 volunteered to try on a burka and reflect on how it feels to the class.

Alexandra Barnett, who works in the Communication Department at Creative Associates in Washington, D.C, visited the Contemporary Literature After 9/11 senior English elective class in early December.

Ms. Barnett spent two years living and working in Afghanistan. As part of her work with the Ambassador’s Small Grant Program (ASGP) to support gender equality in Afghanistan, she helped produce a video about the Kabul Photography House which she showed for the class. ASGP provided start-up capital and support to the association through grant funding. Ms. Barnett shared her experiences and discussed what life is like for a typical, Afghan woman of similar age.
