As the winter sports season winds down and play-offs begin, students gathered in the Hurd for a pep rally on Monday, February 11. With Mr. Withers as MC, the gymnasium divided into red and white teams to see who could cheer the loudest. Varsity basketball, JV basketball, riding, swim and dive, and squash performed skits: the swim and dive team creatively displayed their swimming skills on the gym floor, JV basketball showed their Harlem Globetrotters skills, while riders gave singing a rendition of the Lumineers’ “Ho Hey” (aptly changing the words from “my sweet home” to “my sweet barn”).
Just when we thought all the teams had been announced, the Madeira cheer team, with their all-star line-up of teachers, took the floor with their competition ready routine. Red and white teams went wild as they executed their performance flawlessly. Madeira adults didn’t have the edge for long; The Madeira dancers took the floor next to showcase their moves and show-up the teachers.
Next, the varsity basketball team took on the Slugs (faculty and staff team) and then the Red and White teams faced off.
"Nothing beats this annual tradition of athletic exhibition, healthy competition, and non-stop embarrassment" said Mr. Withers.Student Life Athletics Parents
