Weekend activities are off to a great start view photos from opening day and throughout the first weekend at Madeira on our photo gallery!

What a great way to kick off 2014-2015! Friday night our student leaders reminded all the girls of the nine major school rules during the annual Rules Skits in the Chapel/Auditorium. Then girls headed down the hill for the Epic (yes epic) Red vs. White Games. It was at this time that new girls were told which team – Red or White – they will be on for their Madeira career. This is a long-standing Madeira tradition. So much so, that when alumnae come back to campus their self introductions usually include their team affiliation! The games is the first of many competitions throughout the year in which the teams compete for points. Bragging rights last year went to Red Team, and we look forward to another spirited battle this year!

Saturday brought the first opportunities to go off campus, and students took full advantage. Trips off campus included Tysons Corner, the Mosaic Shopping District, and even a trip into McLean for groceries and maybe a bite of Chipotle. Meanwhile, on campus, our varsity field hockey team endured high temperatures during their first games of the year with grace and good cheer at their play day tournament.

Saturday night was fun for all with Mini Carnival! We had a delicious cookout and were entertained by an airbrush tattoo artist and a balloonist, who created everything from a miniature Spiderman to a snail headdress. Sunday saw trips ranging from regular church attendance to Sweet Frog Frozen Yogurt to Cirque du Soleil. We also had Sunday afternoon activity, and Ms. Newsome was kind enough to open her home to the girls for some baking fun in the afternoon.

Keep track of what's happening during the weekends on Weekends at Madeira, run by our Student Activities Committee!

COMING UP THIS WEEKEND: the first Dorm Event of the year, hosted by North Dorm; the BSSAC (Boarding School Social Activities Committee) Opening Cookout and Dance; the Maryland Renaissance Festival; and much more!
