Photography students juried at local arts festival

May 5, 2018

Each spring, The Nora School sponsors a photography festival open to students in grades 6 through 12 from a wide variety of public, private, home, and charter schools throughout the metropolitan Washington, DC, area. Student photographers address a variety of themes in any way they choose, and a panel of professional photographers judges each submission.

The festival culminates in an exhibition and reception in early May. Prizes were awarded for first, second, and third place and honorable mention. This year there were 547 entries, with 302 juried into show and placed on exhibition at the school.

Of the 11 student works submitted by Madeira Arts faculty, Mrs. Miller and Ms. Mattox, 10 had the honor of having their photography juried into the competition.

The judges were four independent local area photographers and judging was by photo number only, with no references to name, grade, teachers, or school.

Ciara O’Donohgue ‘18 received an award of Honorary Mention for her photo titled “The Battle for The Arts,” a fantasy image she created in her Digital Photography class.

Congratulations to all our students for their high level of achievement in the photographic arts!
