No whining, no problem

Friday, August 2 marks the last day of Camp Greenway. During the three, two-week sessions this summer campers enjoyed carnival days with inflatable water slides, movie assemblies, daily pool time, games, and countless other fun activities.

Each of the 900+ campers received a t-shirt with the word “whining” with a big line through it – a hit with parents, campers, and counselors alike.

“It was a fun t-shirt idea, but really we’ve never had much whining at camp.” said Rachel Minchew, director of summer and auxiliary programs at Madeira. “Our counselors do such a good job of keeping the activities interesting and making

connections with each of the kids in their group.”

Head of School, Pilar Cabeza de Vaca’s grandsons, Nicolas and Francisco, attended the final session of camp while staying with their grandmother for two weeks. “They have really enjoyed camp and staying on campus with me” stated the head of school. She went on to say they would come back from camp telling stories from the cookout and Mad Science class, and practice newly learned archery skills down the hill from The Land. “It’s my hope that we can do it again next year.”

Starting in 1973, Camp Greenway is in its 40th year. Visit Madeira’s summer programs page for more information. View photos of camp on Madiera’s photo gallery.
