News from Madeira?s Student Ambassadors

October 17, 2014

Dear Madeira Families,

We hope that the start of the school year has gone as well for you as it has for the girls on campus.  Some of you were here recently for Parents’ Weekend which we hope you enjoyed.  Unfortunately, not all families are able to travel to campus for events such as this.  Many of the international students who make up Madeira’s community are not able to see their families except for the three long holiday breaks during the year while others must wait for the summer vacation when they return home.

As you all may recall, at the start of the school year the Madeira Student Ambassadors, supported by the Dean of Students Office and the Parents' Association, sent out an email encouraging families to volunteer for Parent Ambassadors To Students (PATS). PATS was widely successful during its inaugural year in 13-14, and we hope to strengthen and expand the program this year. Our hope is that as a PATS family you will kindly open your home to an international girl or two once or twice a semester to enjoy a backyard barbeque, celebrate a holiday or birthday, explore D.C., attend a concert or sporting event, have a family dinner, or attend other similar activities with your family.  This can be an opportunity for your daughter to share her home and family with a friend or to get to know an international classmate better.

Please consider participating in this incredible program; your generosity will have a lasting impact on the lives of our international Madeira girls. More information can be found at the PATS frequently asked questions webpage and you can join via our online form to get involved.

Please contact Director of Residential Life, Mr. Hunter Southworth, at hsouthworth@madeira.org with any questions. Thank you so much again and we look forward to receiving your applications!

Best Regards,

Madeira’s Student Ambassadors
