Madeira Varsity Squash athlete, Neshmeeya Abbas '20, received the United States Squash Association's Scholar-Athlete Award for the 2016-2017 season. The US Squash Scholar Athlete Award recognizes high school students who excel in both the classroom and on the squash court. The Scholar Athlete Award is given to high school student-athletes who achieved a grade point average of 3.5 in school and participated in at least four US Squash accredited events. Neshmeeya was one of only eight female recipients in the United States for the Under 15 category. The US Squash Association's Scholar-Athlete Awards were announced this past weekend at the US Squash Open in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
"Playing on the Madeira Squash team introduced me to competitive squash," reflected Neshmeeya. "It has been a great experience! Encouragement from Coach Monahan, Coach Hurst, and Coach Mubarak gave me the confidence to compete in junior tournaments during and after our season. I am eagerly looking forward to when we are back in the courts!"
Neshmeeya plans to compete for the Snails this winter during the varsity squash season, and plans to compete in the 2017-2018 US Juniors Squash season.
Congratulations, Neshmeeya, and good luck to all of our squash athletes this season!
