Ms. Hogue selected to chair the Oceanic Literature and Culture panel

November 11, 2012

Ms. Rebecca Hogue is an assistant in the Academic Office and will be the substitute teacher in the English Department when Becky Zahradnik is on maternity leave. Rebecca previously served as English sub; taught ESOL to our Spanish exchange students; led Madeira’s first winter term experience; and was a People of Color Conference chaperone.

She presented a paper on late 19th century Hawaiian Literature at the Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association (PAMLA) conference in Seattle, Washington on October 20. Ms. Hogue was subsequently honored by being elected Chair of the Oceanic Literature and Culture panel for next year's PAMLA conference, to be held in San Diego, California in November 2013. She will be responsible for selecting panelists from around the world to present on topics related to literatures of the Pacific Islands. Ms. Hogue will be continuing her work in this field this spring at Madeira, as she will be teaching a senior elective on Pacific Islander and Asian American literature in the English department.
