Reigning Miss Virginia Teen, our very own Junior Skye Jannery-Barney ‘18, recently participated in an event hosted by Airline Ambassadors International (AAI) to celebrate leaders in the fight against human trafficking. Skye’s platform as Miss Virginia Teen is the awareness and prevention of human trafficking.

The event was emceed by Emmy award winning journalist Chris Hansen. Members of Congress who have been highly involved with the issue of the prevention of human trafficking were honored. Skye was able to speak with event honoree, Congresswoman Barbara Comstock, and other leaders in the fight against human trafficking throughout the evening.

In addition to her everyday junior year responsibilities like varsity volleyball, basketball and a five week Capitol Hill internship, Skye is helping to coordinate with AAI to bring a human trafficking/teen trafficking prevention training to her fellow Madeira students. She will be traveling with her family to Bangkok, Thailand over spring break to learn more about child trafficking and how we can stop the tragedies happening in the United States and around the world.
