Michelle Zheng ’20, Victoria Yu ’22 win Regional Scholastic Art Awards

Madeira students Michelle Zheng ’20 and Victoria Yu ’22 have received 2020 Regional Scholastic Arts Awards. Michelle received a Silver Award her piece Palatable Conciousness and Honorable Mention for Love Yourself Within the Magic Shop, both in the digital art category. Victoria received Gold Awards for her pieces Fish In Cotton, mixed media and Still Lives, drawing and illustration.

The 2020 Regional Scholastic Art Awards program, sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, recognized 404 local students with 634 awards including Gold Key, Silver Key, Honorable Mention Awards, and American Visions Nominations. The regional program was open to all creative teens in grades 7-12 from public, private, parochial, and home schools in the Fairfax County, Fairfax City, and Alexandria City area. The Gold Key and Silver Key artworks will be displayed at Northern Virginia Community College’s Ernst Community Cultural Center in Annandale from February 6 to March 15, with an award ceremony on March 4.

A panel of judges awarded Gold Keys, Silver Keys, and Honorable Mention Awards from nearly 4,000 submissions in drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, ceramics, sculpture, digital art, design, architecture, jewelry, fashion, film and animation, future new, mixed media, video game design and portfolios.
