Madeira Winter Athletes receive All-ISL Honors

Maddie Heilbrun ’18, Izzy Gati ’18, Giovi Moriarty ’18, Sofie Davis ’20, and Cayla Williams ’21 were recognized as All-Independent School League (ISL) players for their respective sports.

Maddie, Izzy, Giovi and Sofie amongst others, played a huge role in the battle against Norfolk Academy for the 2018 State title at the end of February. At the state competition Madeira placed nine swimmers in the final heats including; Izzy placing first in the butterfly, Sofie placing second in the 100 Breaststroke, Maddie placing third in the 200 IM and Giovi placing seventh in the 200 Freestyle.

Cayla Williams, a freshman boarder from Gainesville, Virginia, received All-ISL A Division honors for basketball. Cayla averaged 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks this season. Cayla also posted her season high of 20 points against Sandy Spring Friends School and National Cathedral School.

“We are very excited for Cayla, said Head Basketball Coach, Katie LaRue. “This is a great honor for a freshman and she’s earned it!  Her development this year has been impressive. Cayla has a bright future if she continues to do the extra work she’s done all season.
