The Madeira varsity swim and dive team won two out of three team scored dual meets at the Woodberry Invitational on Friday night. Madeira fell to St. Catherine’s School 91-79 but defeated Douglas Freeman High School 91-77 and Virginia Episcopal 117-52.
Kylie Jordan ’16 broke The Madeira School team record in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 57.41 crushing the previous record of 59.25.
Individual event winners were: Farrin Saba ’15 (100 freestyle and 50 freestyle), Kylie Jordan (200 IM and 100 backstroke), Michaela Saunders ‘14 (200 freestyle),
Madeira also won the 200 Medley Relay (Saba, Jordan, Romi Gould’17, Stephanie Royer’15) and the 400 Freestyle Relay (Jordan, Saunders, Gould, Royer)
“This was a strong meet for us” said Madeira coach Rod Montrie. “Our rookie swimmers dropped times in almost every race. Senior Rachel Tate had a great swim in the 100 breaststroke and Stephanie Royer anchored two winning relays. Kylie’s backstroke race was amazing for this time of the season.”
Madeira’s next meet is Tuesday, January 14 at home against Georgetown Visitation.Athletics
