Madeira’s Model UN team had a very successful weekend at the North American Invitational Model United Nations (NAIMUN) conference, taking home five awards, which is the most ever taken home by a Madeira team. The awards are below.

  • Jackie Ayers '20 - verbal commendation in Legal Committee.
  • Casey Ocasal '19 - verbal commendation in Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
  • Caroline Potter '20 - verbal commendation in the World Economic Forum.
  • Tarina Ahuja '20 - honorable mention in the New Zealand Secret Intelligence Service.
  • Iona Volynets '20 and Brezlan Malina '20 - the book award in the UN Development Program.

Forty Madeira girls participated in over a dozen committees, from The Committee on the Peaceful Use of Outer Space, to the World Health Organization, to the New Zealand Secret Intelligence Service, and represented over 25 countries or positions.

Ms. Sara Rhodin, advisor to Model UN, was pleased with the performance: “Madeira delegates worked exceptionally hard—in the month leading up the conference and throughout the entire weekend. Their commitment to the conference and to their teammates was admirable and inspiring, and it clearly paid off! I am incredibly proud of them and can’t wait until next year.”
