Madeira’s Model UN team had a very successful weekend at the North American Invitational Model United Nations (NAIMUN) conference, taking home five awards, which is the most ever taken home by a Madeira team. The awards are below.
Forty Madeira girls participated in over a dozen committees, from The Committee on the Peaceful Use of Outer Space, to the World Health Organization, to the New Zealand Secret Intelligence Service, and represented over 25 countries or positions.
Ms. Sara Rhodin, advisor to Model UN, was pleased with the performance: “Madeira delegates worked exceptionally hard—in the month leading up the conference and throughout the entire weekend. Their commitment to the conference and to their teammates was admirable and inspiring, and it clearly paid off! I am incredibly proud of them and can’t wait until next year.”
NAIMUN is one of the oldest UN simulations for high school students. Three thousand high school students convene for four days to explore various problems of the world and seek solutions through discussion, negotiation, and debate.
