Madeira Athletics sent eight Track and Field athletes to the VISAA Track and Field State Championship Meet on Saturday, May 20, 2017. Each of the eight athletes that competed for Madeira at states set new personal records in their respective event, with a total of 10 new personal records set in all!
Yaje Nshanji '18 finished 2nd overall in the state in shot put, and set a new personal record with a distance of 34 feet, 2.25 inches. Nshanji went on to place 7th overall in the discus, throwing 76 feet, 5 inches.
Lauren Grohowski '19 finished 6th overall in the 100 meter hurdles, and set a new personal best with a time of 17.37 seconds. Grohowski also placed 9th in the 300 meter hurdle race with another new personal record on 52.08 seconds. Penny Pathanaporn '18 finished in the top 20 of the 300 meter race, setting a new personal record as well.
Alexandra Murphy '19 led Madeira in the 800 meter race, finishing 7th overall and setting a new personal record with a time of 2 minutes, 26.84 seconds. In the 400 meter race, Murphy placed 9th overall with a time of 1 minute, 5.86 seconds.
Dana Osei '19 finished 6th in the triple jump, and set a new personal best with a distance of 33-05.5. Osei went on to place 10th overall in the long jump for the Snails, with a new personal record and a distance of 14 feet, 11.5 inches.
Romi Gould '17 ran a pace of 28.28 seconds in the 200 meter race, setting a new personal record and finishing in the 10th position. Gould, Ally Johnson '18, and Julia Landry '20 all set new personal records in the 100 meter dash, finishing 14th, 17th, and 20th respectively.
