April 2, 2019

Madeira English teacher, Sheila McGrory, has been awarded an Exceptional Merit Fellowship to attend the Oxford Teacher Seminar. Nominated by Head of School, Pilar Cabeza de Vaca, Ms. McGrory will travel to Oxford, England this summer to study Shakespeare in History.

“I am very excited about this opportunity to study Shakespeare in Oxford with a group of talented people from around the world,” said Ms. McGrory. “Expanding my knowledge of Shakespeare and his world will no doubt enhance my teaching of his works, which, although written in a particular place and time, are timeless and relevant to our world today because of his profound understanding and expression of what it means to be a human being.”

The Oxford Teacher Seminar is held at Worcester College in the University of Oxford, England. Participants have the unique opportunity to share in the academic and cultural traditions of this famous institution. Teachers meet Rhodes Scholars; visit colleges, libraries, and historic sites; and gain an insider’s feeling for the deeper resources behind the beauty and tradition of “the city of dreaming spires.”

Congratulations Ms. McGrory!
