The Madeira varsity swim and dive team placed fifth out of 22 teams at the 2014 Washington Metropolitan Prep School Swim and Dive Championships on Saturday, February 2, at the Takoma Recreation Center in Washington D.C.
Kylie Jordan ’16 won the 100 Butterfly and placed second in the 200 Individual Medley. Madeira’s 400 Freestyle Relay team (Farrin Saba’15, Michaela Saunders ’14, Romi Gould ’17 Jordan) placed second in 400 Freestyle relay. The 200 Freestyle relay team (Saba, Saunders, Stephanie Royer ’15, Jordan) took third place. Diver Carly Yosaitis’15 placed third.
Other swimmers scoring in the top 16 were: Farrin Saba (5th place 50 free, 7th place 100 Free), Michaela Saunders (12th place 100 Fly, 10th place 100 Free) Romi Gould (16th pace 100 Fly, 11th place 500 Freestyle) Jacqueline Beaulieu ’15 (12th place diving) Claire Simpson’17 (13th place diving),
“Our relays came alive at this meet” said Madeira coach Rod Montrie. “They dropped significant time since the ISL meet just two weeks ago. It was great to see Nora Canellakis make her state championship cut in the 50 Free and Stephanie Royer swam her heart out despite being sick. This was a great build up for the state meet in two weeks”
