Madeira Varsity Swim and Dive team attended the Washington Metropolitan Prep School Swim and Dive Championships at the Fairland Aquatic Center in Laurel, Maryland in early February. Participating teams hail from DC, MD and VA private schools, as well as MD and DC public schools.
The Snails placed second overall with a score of 296 points. Event winners include Izzy Gati ’18 in the 200 IM in an automatic All-American time and Sofie Davis ’20 in the 100 Breaststroke.
Madeira also won the 200 Freestyle Relay (Davis, Grace Frerichs ’20, Giovi Moriarty ’18, Gati)
The 200-Yard Medley relay of Meaghan Doyle ‘19, Davis, Gati and Maddie Heilbrun ’18 set a new team record of 1:44.69 in an automatic All-American time.
“This was some real fast swimming for this point of the season,” said Madeira Coach Rod Montrie “it was the perfect tune up meet before our state championship meet.”
The Snails finished the 2017-2018 regular season with nine wins and several record breaking performances including Saturday’s achievement in the 200-Yard Medley relay.
Madeira will close out the season on Saturday, February 18 at the VISAA Championship Meet.Athletics
