Madeira students participate in French immersion program

June 24, 2019

Shortly after the school year ended, fourteen Madeira students departed for a ten-day adventure in Nice, France.

Students were hosted by local families, and spent their evenings at home, sharing in family meals and seeing the world through a different cultural lens as they applied their language skills in daily life.

During the day, students attended morning French classes at France Langue. The classes were tailored to rapidly develop communicative competency and are based on each student’s language level (novice to advanced).

Each afternoon, students participated in a rich array of educational and cultural experiences in Nice and other regions and cities around Nice. They traveled to Fragonard Parfumerie at Èze, took a day trip to Monaco, and visited the magnificent beaches at the Lerins Islands, off the French Riviera, in Cannes.

The trip was organized by Forum Language Experience, a customized group travel program for students and their teachers. Madeira faculty members Giulia Pagano and Sheila McGrory were chaperones for the trip.

The France trip is open to all Madeira students and provides students the opportunities to not only learn the language beyond the class walls, but also to live different cultures and broaden their horizons.
