Madeira students earn Karate promotions

December 19, 2019

The Madeira Karate Dojo is proud to announce the following promotions awarded on December 17, 2019.  Promotions are based on proficiency of physical skill, demonstration of personal growth, and time in grade.

Yon kyu (purple belt):  Yunqing (Isabella) Han ’21 and Yina (Ina) Zhang ’21.
Isabella and Ina joined the Madeira Dojo in ninth grade and have been a steadfast part of the dojo ever since.  They have been outstanding leaders for the newer students this term.

Shichi kyu (one-stripe white belt):  Yingying (Jenny) Rao ’21, Isabelle Murdock ’22, Elshadai Bereda ’23, Athena Cox ’23, and Sena Ocloo ’23. These students joined the dojo at the start of the winter season and have made great strides each overcoming their own obstacles.

Instructor Dr. Stacey Boyette said, "Throughout the term, the students have learned strikes, kicks, throws, and self-defense techniques and forms utilizing empty-hand, escrima sticks, and bo staff.  A highlight of the module was the preparation and demonstration of forms and board breaking performed as part of the Winter Pep Rally."

If you have any questions about the program, please contact the instructor, Dr. Stacey Boyette (Science Department).  Dr. Boyette has over 40 years of martial arts experience, holds the rank of 7th degree black belt, and is thrilled to share her passion for karate with Madeira girls.

Congratulations to all!
