Madeira senior selected as UVA Jefferson Scholar

May 30, 2013

Madeira senior Devin Williams of Oak Hill, VA was nominated last fall to compete for the University of Virginia Jefferson Scholarship. Over 1,200 students from across the country are nominated by their schools to compete for these prestigious, merit-based scholarships.

To be selected as a Jefferson Scholar, a student must be nominated by their school, and undergo a rigorous selection process: going through a progression of regional, at-large, and a four-day weekend of events meant to narrow the initial 1,000 plus nominees to just 50 Jefferson Scholars.

Devin, though extremely honored by the scholarship, has instead chosen to attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where she wants to study mechanical engineering.
