The team huddles up before the show

The Maderia varsity IEA team returned to competition last weekend, traveling to Oatlands Stables in Gaithersburg, MD. The team won Reserve Champion honors out of 12 teams, continuing their streak earning Champion or Reserve Champion at every show this season. Several new Madeira team members, including Charlotte Smith '17, made their IEA debut at this show with very solid performances.

Since the team has already qualified for post season finals, the focus shifts to getting individuals qualified for post season competitions explained Coach Jessica Leonardi. “This was a new venue for us in a different region. I was impressed with how quickly the girls adapted and settled into getting the job done. We’re going to need that flexibility and confidence in an unfamiliar setting in order to advance after the regular season.”

After only four shows this season, the Madeira IEA team already has six individual riders qualified for Regionals. The team will be back in action again this weekend at Garrison Forest School on Sunday, December 14.

Post season individual qualifiers:

  • Charlotte Burch ’17
  • Peggy Li ’16
  • Hanna Powers ’15
  • Isabel Ruffin ’16
  • Mollie Thomas ’16
  • Claire Womack ’16
