The Madeira Lacrosse program made the most of the school's two week spring break vacation. On March 20, 2017, nineteen Madeira student-athletes and two coaches made their way to Orlando, Florida, to compete in spring training at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex, located in the middle of the Disney World Resorts. While at the facility, the Snails participated in multiple practices, a specialized agility clinic, team bonding activities, and played two unofficial games. After a full day's training, the team celebrated their successes on the field in the Disney Parks.
Annie Newton '20, a day student from McLean, Virginia, noted that the magic of the Disney parks provided a sort of team magic to build Madeira's chemistry on the field. "Disney helped our whole team to become more practiced in different aspects of the game, but most of all it helped us become more of a team," said Newton. "This trip will forever be one of my favorite Madeira experiences, and I can't wait to make more memories when I go back!"
Head Coach, Lucy Gerrity, shared in the sentiment in stating, "The Disney trip was invaluable for our development as a team and program. We had the incredible opportunity to bring some of our Junior Varsity players with us, and with the combined effort of both teams, we improved our skills, worked through team concepts, and bonded as a program. I am very grateful to all of the wonderful parents and supporters who made the trip possible, and everyone who helped make this trip such a success."
The Madeira Lacrosse team begins the 2017 regular season at The Maret School at 4:15 pm on April 5, 2017, and is slated to open at home against Sandy Spring Friends School at 4:15 pm on April 7, 2017.Athletics
