On Saturday, February 20th, eight Madeira students accompanied by Ms. Pratt, traveled to Foxcroft for an all-girls STEM contest. There were five different competitions that covered physics, coding, engineering, chemistry, and biology, and there were additional puzzles that kept the students entertained during the breaks. The Madeira team earned seventh and eighth place out of 20 teams.
Madeira girls also were able to connect with alumna Stephanie Volk '03 who was there as one of the senior project managers of K2M, the company that sponsored the contest. "It was great to be able to introduce the current students to a professional engineer, one who was in their shoes fairly recently," said Ms. Reyna Pratt, chair of the Madeira Science Department. "Kudos to the students for being excited to spend their Saturday morning addressing a variety of STEM challenges!"
