Madeira Athletics is thrilled to welcome two new coaches to the lacrosse and tennis programs this spring. Natalya Moody will be joining the lacrosse program as Varsity Head Coach and Michael Retta will be joining the tennis program as Varsity Head Coach.

Natalya Moody comes to Madeira from Pride Lacrosse, a national top 10 club for youth and high school lacrosse. Her own playing experience includes playing for lacrosse powerhouse Notre Dame Prep in Towson, MD and continuing her playing career at George Mason University.

At George Mason, Moody made an immediate impact on the team as a starter and defensive threat for the Patriots. Her leadership, communication, and athleticism helped George Mason climb the ranks of the Atlantic 10 Conference and serves as her foundation for coaching.

“We are extremely excited to have Coach Moody’s experience and expertise to lead the lacrosse program and provide value to the Madeira community,” says Athletic Director Tavis Laws.

Michael Retta, a DMV native and Vanderbilt University graduate, comes to Madeira with over 10 years of playing and coaching experience. He was a member of the #1 men’s tennis recruiting class in 2011. Retta finished his collegiate career at Vanderbilt with his team ranked as high as No. 11 in the ITA rankings, and a Sweet 16 finish in the NCAA tournament.

Michael has trained and helped over 20 players secure scholarships to top universities, including Georgetown, Dartmouth, MIT, George Washington, and Carnegie Mellon. In 2017, Retta spent a year coaching and traveling on the ATP Challenger Tour with UVA standout Mitchell Frank (former college tennis No. 1 & NCAA champion).

Prior to joining Madeira, Michael served as an assistant coach for the Men’s & Women’s tennis programs at Georgetown University. In 2021 Michael founded House of Tennis, a dynamic tennis program for young people, and also volunteers as a coach for the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington.

“I’m excited to join the Madeira family. This community is home to extremely bright student-athletes, and I look forward to the opportunity to help further develop the immense talent present in the School’s tennis program.”

Welcome to Madeira!
