Madeira Athletics - Letter from the Athletic Director

September 5, 2017

Madeira Community,

It’s hard to convey the extent of my excitement for the upcoming school year. Since coming to Madeira, I have been impressed with how our student-athletes have continually raised the bar, pushed themselves and each other, and how they have championed the direction of the athletics program. True to last year’s theme, “Commit," the enthusiasm and effort from our girls has far exceeded my expectations, and I am thankful for you rallying around your Madeira student-athletes. We plan to carry over that spirit of commitment into the 2017-2018 school year with our new theme, “Contribute." We are adding a focus on how we can work together, looking past ourselves as individuals and giving back to our teammates and the Madeira community.

Many of you have seen our new Snail logo and our partnership with Adidas. These initiatives represent an intentional level of commitment from our administration, our coaches, our student-athletes, and our community. We strive to enhance the experience of the player and the fan, and continue to reach for new levels of individual growth and success.

Last year, we saw improvements in many of our sports, including an Independent School League Division A Championship for our volleyball program, an undefeated swimming season, and individuals placing in the top three in their events at the track and field state meet! This year, we are returning many strong, dedicated athletes, and there are incoming student-athletes that have already competed at a high level in their respective sports. We are purposefully seeking ways to continue on the path of improvement, and are building a foundation for the future. We are creating a culture of excellence in athletics, and it is, in part, due to your dedication and contribution.

Coaches, both returning and new, have committed to helping our student-athletes grow as players and as people. We have partnered with STRIVE, who hosted leadership workshops for our coaches and student-athletes that encouraged us to take steps towards growing as a person, a teammate, and a leader. We look forward to building upon the successes of our leadership programming, including our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and our bi-weekly leadership breakfast meetings, that will be open to all student-athletes throughout the year.

The energy around Madeira Athletics is electric and contagious. Join us in supporting our student-athletes in all of their endeavors and help to create a spirit of community for Madeira Athletics!

Here’s to a great year,

Katie LaRue
