She may have only graduated in 2015 but Anna McMahon is already using her experience from Madeira’s signature Co-Curriculum program to secure sought after summer internships. She stopped by Madeira a few weeks ago and filled us in on her impressive summer internship.
"This summer I am interning for the MSNBC politics show, Hardball with Chris Matthews. "We are a hard charging, fast-paced news show that analyzes the politics of the day by interviewing reporters and other political pundits,” said Anna. “I research the guests and issues for the producers, help book guests and conduct their pre-interviews, assist with the graphics and complete any other tasks needed to put on a good show. It is exciting every day! I even had the opportunity to commute to New York for the day to work at the famous 30 Rockefeller Center.”
Anna went on to say that her time at Madeira prepared her for her work with Chris Matthews and the staff of Hardball.
"My Madeira experiences - including a Co-Curriculum placement in Senator Heitkamp’s (D-ND) office and AP Government with Mrs. Continetti '03 - gave me a solid foundation for this internship,” Anna commented. “Those Madeira experiences also helped me find my love of politics, which has led to my Political Science and Strategic Communications double major at Elon."
-- For 50 years, Madeira's award-winning experiential learning program has provided student internships, similar to those offered by colleges and universities. For five weeks, girls learn from experience in settings beyond the classrooms. Sophomores engage in service, juniors serve on Capitol Hill, and seniors pursue a career interest or passion. Over their four years, Madeira graduates build an impressive resume from the Co-Curriculum placements.
The Co-Curriculum Program at Madeira is a journey of self-discovery and a practical approach to learning. No two students' experiences are the same.
