Madeira varsity field hockey goalie Kita Konerth has been selected to train with the Futures Elite Academy in Colorado Springs in 2015. Kita was recognized after competing with the AAU Junior Olympics and in the National Futures Tournament this past summer. She is one of a small group of athletes who were identified as possessing the skills, talent and athletic prowess to successfully continue through the next stages in USA Field Hockey’s Olympic Development Pipeline. The Academy exists to provide additional training and competition opportunities for these athletes distinguished with the potential to one day represent Team USA.
“Kita is incredibly driven on the field, in the weight room, and in the classroom. She is deserving of this opportunity and we know she will represent Madeira well,” said Madeira Athletic Director Katie Lamade.
After participating in the Futures Elite Academy Program next spring, Kita could be selected to move on to a Level 1 training site. “Academy athletes have the unique opportunity to hone their hockey skills at an elite level under the highest caliber of coaches and develop their game amongst the country’s most talented high school aged players,” explains USA Field Hockey’s Executive Director Steve Locke. “This program has proven over the years to showcase athletes and improve their technical skills for top collegiate performance and potential Olympic team selection,” he adds.Athletics
