Sixteen girls put on a demonstration for their parents and grandparents on Friday, October 10. Students demonstrated empty hand sequences, bo staff forms (kata), stick fighting partner drills, judo-type throwing techniques, and board breaking. These techniques and others were practiced throughout Module 1 with an emphasis on self-defense applications. A few days prior to the demonstration, students received promotions to various ranks in USA Goju karate based on time in grade, proficiency of technique, and personal growth and development. Additionally, Nana Acquah ’15, Ji Hee (Taylor) Chung ’16, and Mona Hagmagid ’16, all ranking green belt, provided outstanding leadership this term and received the coveted USA Goju patch.
