Graduation 2012

June 8, 2012

The Class of 2012 graduated under threatening skies on Friday, June 1, 2012. Seventy-six girls donned white dresses, carried 13 red roses and received thier diplomas. The Madeira Community was welcomed by Head of School Pilar Cabeza de Vaca and Board Chair, Jane Krumrine Lawson-Bell '76. Dr. Dorothy Hayden was honored for her 33 years of service to Madeira. The senior class heard remarks by June Schreiner '12 and received some great advice from Poetry Slam Champion Anis Mojgani.

Mr. Mojgani imparted three pieces of timeless wisdom to the class:

  1. Don’t be a jerk.
  2. Be a part of the world around you.
  3. Follow your passion. Follow that which will give your heart, your life the most happiness. So that at the end of it you can look over the stretch of your and truly smile.

His speech was witty, thought provoking, honest and entertaining. The key to his wisdom was not only that it was practical as the girls "enter the world as free people" but that his words speak beyond one day and a class of seniors. He shared advice everyone in the audience could heed and cherish.

Graduation day was rounded out by a spectacular reception, packing up cars to head to the places girls call home and then the eventual release of rain from the clouds.
