Forensic science students get crime scene tips

October 6, 2014

Detective Derek Hardy of the Fairfax County Police Department visited the Madeira Forensic Science class to share his expertise in handling crime scenes, collecting evidence, analyzing blood spatter, and processing digital imaging. Many skills are needed in the field of forensic science; from processing DNA to writing comprehensive reports, the arts and sciences overlap often for these professionals.

One area Detective Hardy emphasized particularly was the key role that digital images of crime scenes and individual evidence can play in modern detective work. He encouraged any girl interested in forensic work to start by taking a good photography class.
