Busy and successful time for Madeira equestrians

February 12, 2016

Despite the cold and snowy weather, members of the Madeira IEA team have been busy the past several weekends earning points to qualify for post-season competition. Riders are looking forward to the last home IEA show on February 14, and then all attention will be on preparing for regional finals at the end of the month. Jacey Albaugh '18 and Charlotte Burch '17 were the most recent to join a group of Madeira riders who have qualified for the IEA Regional Finals on February 27-28 at Hazelwild in Fredericksburg, VA.

In addition to the impressive IEA results (below), Director of Equestrian Programs Ian McCartney took four Madeira horses and riders to the Stonewall Country II “USEF Premier” Horse Show at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington, VA. Both riders and horses were fantastic at Madeira’s first USEF show of 2016. In their last show together, Emily Cyrway '19 and her equine partner Kanye had a first-place finish in the Special Children’s Equitation Over Fences while Bailey Petty '18 and her new mount Otteridge Dress Blues received lots of ribbons in their debut together including a second-place finish in the Children/Adult Equitation Over Fences. Community riders Emma Avent and Miriam Dupree also had wins on their new horses Happenstance and Top Gun V.
