Big finish for spring karate

Roku kyu (two-stripe white belt): Alison LoPresti ’12 and Nana Acquah '15, Julia Burley '15, Ashley Ma '15, Leni Peterson '15, and Cherry Yan '15

Spring karate drew to a close with two big events. On May 7, the Madeira Dojo hosted Senpai Neil Teller, assistant instructor from the Gainesville Dojo in Florida. During his visit, Senpai Teller gave the students pointers on rolling and falling techniques and worked with them on throwing a larger opponent. On May 10, nineteen students were promoted to their next belt level in USA Goju Karate based on proficiency of physical skill, demonstration of personal growth, and time in grade. The following promotions were received:

Yon Kyu - Purple Belt:

  • Victoria Todd ’12 - Victoria is one of only four students to have obtained this rank in the history of the Madeira Dojo.

Go Kyu - Green Belt:

  • Alison Branitsky ’14
  • Melanie Brown ’12
  • Vanessa Thomas ’13.

Roku Kyu - Two-Stripe White Belt:

  • Alison LoPresti ’12 and Nana Acquah '15

Shichi Kyu - One-Stripe White Belt:

The karate activity will be offered again in the fall trimester. All students are welcome to participate.
