Swim and Dive vs. Holton Arms - W, 96-90
The Madeira Varsity swim and dive team improved their season record to 3-0 with a 96-90 win over The Holton Arms School on Tuesday, 1/10 at Holton. The meet was a closely contested competition with the scored tied going into the final relay.
Izzy Gati ‘18 was a double event winner taking the 200 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly. Single event winners were Maddie Heilbrun ‘18 (100 Backstroke), Sophie Davis ‘20 (100 Breaststroke) and Claire Simpson ‘17 (Diving).
Madeira won the 200 Freestyle relay (Gati, Giovi Moriarty ’18, Davis, Heilbrun) and the 400 Freestyle relay (Gati, Meaghan Doyle ’19, Davis, Heilbrun).
“This win was a total team effort.” said Madeira coach Rod Montrie. “In every event we fought for every point. Sophia Bernstein ’19 swam two tough events scoring crucial points. Freshmen Lily Rathbun ’20, Molly Watts ‘20 and Niya Kelley ’20 all took third place in their races. Giovi Moriarty and Meaghan Doyle posted great times”
“Our two senior divers (Simpson, Leah Fine ’17) went 1-2 and freshman diver Lily Evans ’20 did an outstanding job in her first competition. Our B freestyle relays (200-Grace Frerichs ’20, Morgan Rushforth ’19, Romi Gould ’17, Watts) (400-Watts, Lindsay Lukehart ’19, Bernstein, Gould) both took third place to secure the win”

JV Basketball vs. Maret - W, 33-14
The JV Basketball team started out strong, scoring the first few points of the game. With every quarter the girls got stronger, tiring out the other team. Madeira led at the half with the score at 16-5. Madeira came in strong with a 19 point lead in the second half. The final score was 33-14.
JV Basketball vs. St. Andrews - W, 29-7
The Snails entered the St. Andrews court confidently, and finished the first quarter leading 10-0. After the half, Madeira came back in strong finishing the third quarter leading by 19 points. The Snails were led by top two scorers Holly Crowley ‘20 and Maggie Needler ‘18, both scoring a total of 7 points each. Madeira finished the game strong with a final score of 29-7!
JV Basketball vs. SSSAS - L 22-29
JV Basketball took on an athletic St. Stephen and St. Agnes team in Alexandria, VA on Thursday. The first half was shaky for the Snails, with 13 turnovers as they went down 11-19. Bouncing back behind a great defense effort in the second half, the Snails made it a game, unfortunately falling 22-29.
Squash vs. Potomac School - L
On Thursday the Madeira Varsity Squash Team competed against The Potomac School. The team put in a valiant effort and came out with two wins from Calla Ritland '19 (3-2) and Nandi Ndoro '19 (3-0).
