The Madeira Varsity Swim and Dive team opened its 2016-2017 season with a win over Georgetown Visitation 111-43.

Double event winners were Meaghan Doyle ‘19 (100 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke), Sofie Davis ’20 (200 IM, 100 Breaststroke) and Molly Watts ’20 (200 Freestyle, 500 Freestyle).

Single event winners were Romi Gould ’17 (50 Freestyle), Niya Kelley ’20 (100 Butterfly) and Claire Simpson ’17 (Diving).

Madeira won all three relays; 200 Medley (Doyle, Davis, Lindsay Lukehart ’19, Giovi Moriarty ’18) 200 Freestyle (Davis, Gould, Morgan Rushforth ’19, Moriarty) and 400 Freestyle (Watts, Lukehart, Kelley, Doyle).

Also scoring for Madeira were Sophia Bernstein ‘18, Kaitlyn McCarthy ’17, Reilly O’Flaherty ’19, Lily Rathbun ’20, Grace Bilicki ’17, and Grace Frerichs ’20. 

“This was a strong performance for an early season meet with a great showing from our freshman swimmers.” said Madeira Coach Rod Montrie. “Our divers looked great and our relays promise to be a big factor in our team scoring again this year.” 

Madeira’s next meet will be on Tuesday, December 6th at the National CathedralSchool.
