On October 17, 2013 at 10:17 a.m., Madeira will conduct earthquake training in conjunction with the “2013 Great South East ShakeOut!”
“The Great South East ShakeOut” is a regional opportunity to practice how to be safe during big earthquakes by practicing "Drop, Cover and Hold On." The drill will only last a few minutes.
As you may recall, on August 23, 2011, a 5.8 magnitude earthquake hit Mineral, VA. This unexpected earthquake, felt as far north as New England and as far south as Georgia, reminded many how an earthquake can occur anywhere at any time. This earthquake occurred on the first day of school for many students and emphasizes the importance of school safety and being prepared for the unexpected. Based on your past experience and now your training, we will be prepared for the next unexpected incident.
