Annie Liu ?15 won first place in Virginia national essay competition

Annie Liu, a Madeira sophomore boarding student from New Jersey, won first place for the state of Virginia in the United States Institute for Peace 2012-2013 national essay competition for high school students. The prize she won includes a $1,000 cash prize, a five-day, all expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C., and the chance to compete among the other first-place state winners for a $10,000 college scholarship. Among hundreds of entrants in this prestigious competition, her dynamic essay stood out. Annie and her mentor Ms. Georgis will work over the next several weeks to compete for the scholarship.
