Adios to Spanish exchange students

September 25, 2013

On Friday, September 20, Madeira students and faculty bid farewell to the Spanish exchange students and their chaperone, Mr. Antonio Retuerto who had called McLean, VA home for the previous 12 days. Girls from the Jesus- Maria School in the Juan Bravo neighborhood of Madrid joined the Madeira community, enjoying all that Washington, D.C. has to offer. The exchange, facilitated by Dr. Campos, Mrs. Cooley and Ms. Keilhauer, was both scholastic and fun. Each day, students had a morning  ESOL class  at Madeira, taught by a friend of the school Mrs. Faye Sunshine; then they went off on excursions to places such as the National Mall, Georgetown, Mt. Vernon, and Great Falls Park.

Thank you to the Madeira day families who hosted the girls during their travels. Notes that read, “Being with my American family made me a better person. They were so nice" and "Thank you for giving us such an incredible opportunity" express how much this experience meant for these young learners.
