Gifts At Work

The generosity of current and past parents, grandparents, alumnae, staff, faculty, and friends plays a substantial role in Madeira's ability to provide an academically rigorous curriculum and life-changing educational experiences. We want to share the stories of how gifts are put into use and how they are helping us achieve our strategic goals.

An Unprecedented Gift Helps to Complete Phase 1 of the
Dorm Modernization Project

In September 2014, The Board of Directors and Head of School Pilar Cabeza de Vaca announced that Madeira has met a $10 million challenge grant from an anonymous private foundation—the largest single gift in the school’s history. Read the announcement >>

Thanks to this challenge, we have successfully raised more than $20.2 million toward the completion of Phase 1 of our Dorm Modernization Project, which encompasses the renovation of Main, Main Terrace, and East Dorm. Much of this work was done over the summer of 2014 which you can see in the video and photos below.

Updates to the dorms include geothermal heating and cooling, energy-efficient windows, renovated bathrooms, ADA accessible entrances, improved lighting, upgraded technology infrastructure, and modern pipes and plumbing.
