Postgraduate Year

The postgraduate program at Madeira is designed for the high school graduate who wishes to enrich their academic experience with challenging classes and an internship in the nation’s capital prior to college.

The Madeira School Gap Year Post Graduate ProgramMadeira admits qualified applicants who have already earned a high school degree, to join the boarding community on our 376-acre campus just 15 miles from Washington, D.C. The unique components of this academic experience are geared to each young woman’s educational objectives for the year, access to the Madeira college counseling program, and a five-week internship in Washington, D.C. through our Co-Curriculum program.

Application for Postgraduate Year

  • You must complete the application for admission. This application will include a supplement essay that will be provided to you upon receipt of your application.
  • In addition, please submit your most recent SAT or ACT scores in lieu of the SSAT or PSAT test result. Applicants who graduated from a high school without English as the language of primary instruction are required to submit TOEFL scores. Upon receipt of the application, you will have an in-person or Skype interview.
  • Decisions for the postgraduate will be based on past academic record, ability to work in an internship setting, and ability to join our community.
  • Notifications will be made on a rolling basis.

Note: one-year participants must have completed high school, and will receive a “Certificate of Completion” at the conclusion of the academic year.
