Spanish I is a beginning-level Spanish course designed to build students’ linguistic and cultural proficiency to a novice high/intermediate low level, according to ACTFL standards. Students will acquire basic communicative functions, vocabulary and structures of the Spanish language in culturally authentic contexts through speaking, reading, writing, and listening comprehension activities. Among other skills, students will develop the ability to introduce themselves and talk about their family, daily routine, likes and dislikes, feelings, obligations and future plans, as well as about past experiences. Upon successful completion of this class, the Madeira student will enroll either in Bridge to Spanish II or Spanish II per instructor's recommendation.
Panorama, 5th Edition. (Boston, Vista Higher Learning). Student textbook and supersite code. The instructor recommends that students buy directly from the publisher (ISBN:978-1-68004-360-0). Students will continue to use this material in Spanish II.
A final report of work and achievement in all courses is sent to parents/guardians and, if applicable, to the student’s school. If non-Madeira students would like their school to receive a report, they must indicate this on the application form and provide the full mailing address.
