Course Details

No Prerequisite

French I is a beginning-level French course designed to build students’ linguistic and cultural proficiency to a novice high/intermediate low level, according to ACTFL standards. The course reinforces the acquisition of basic grammatical structures and vocabulary in culturally authentic contexts through speaking, reading, writing and listening comprehension exercises. Students will be able to greet and introduce themselves in the target language.  They will develop skills in describing family members, their habits/pass-time.  They will acquire vocabulary of food/meals by experimenting French cooking in class.  By the end of the course, students will learn to describe past events as well. Upon successful completion of this class (B and above), the Madeira student should register for French II during the upcoming school year. Madeira students who receive a B- and below will register for Bridge class between French I and II during the upcoming school year.
